Six Months of Stellar

Hello blogosphere! I am sorry to have been away for so long! In this post I am going to be hitting you with a rapid fire onslaught of the recent events going on in my life for the past few months. Hang in there with me! It’s been exciting. And crazy busy.

Since my last post back in November (eek!)  I have...

…Volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House

…Had a blast at my second annual weekend at NC Comic-Con

...Been part of a birthday party planning trifecta

…Been in a bridal fashion show where I ended up resembling my “sister” Zoe's look from the Oscars

…Helped put together superhero themed fashion show, “Superheroes Among Us”, for Models for Charity

…Been a superhero named Unity

Photographer: Galizes Photos
Dress: Retro Tweet
Crown: Day of the Doodles

…Been in a Vintage-Bohemian bridal photoshoot

…Made some more really amazing friends

And here we are now in April, my birthday month (04/29), and I will be celebrating in a big way! In honor of my love for and the return of the next Episode of Star Wars at the end of this year, I will be having a Star Wars costume birthday party on May 2nd! This is also the weekend of ‘May the Fourth be with you’. I thought it would be pretty fitting. And friggin’ fun. I am stoked.

I have had to deal with a couple low points, too, but those amazing friends I mentioned have been there for me. I have started practicing meditation and am working on getting back into shape to hopefully return to Modern dance soon.

Coming down the pipeline:

I will be attending Animazement, a live WWE event, a Supernatural Convention (holy balls, the Winchesters!), and hopefully making it to Las Vegas for the first time for a friend’s birthday!

Whew! So, again, my apologies for being MIA! This blog is just as important to me as all of the things I have been taking on in life. Hell, it’s the best way to chronicle it all and stay connected with my readers. So I will do better with posting more consistently.

Supernatural 10.5 "Fan Fiction" - 200th Episode

It is currently 3:30 in the morning and I am up blogging about the 200th episode of Supernatural because it was, simply, amazing. Speaking as a 10 year fan of the thriller show, this episode gave me all the feels. I literally laughed, cried, cheered, and shot up in surprise at the long awaited scene at the end of the episode. If you're new to the show, this episode was a great introduction to the Supernatural universe from the collection of Supernatural stamp intros over the years, to Dean verbally recapping recent events, to the musical depiction of the brothers' lives.

Five major highlights of the 200th episode:

1. "Carry On My Wayward Son" - This classic hit by Kansas can be heard playing in the background of the montage sequence during the beginning of each Supernatural season finale episode. The song is the closest thing the show has to a theme song and is incredibly fitting for the lives of the brothers and their journey; the road so far.

Carry on my wayward son,
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more

In tonight's episode, the high school theater club sang a beautiful cover of the song at the end of their play, "Supernatural" and the brothers can soon be seen driving off into a beautiful sunset in Baby, the Impala. The scene took my breath away and captured the depth of the brothers' bond and the trials and tribulations they've overcome thus far.

2. Winchester Brother Bond - To say that Sam and Dean have been through the ringer is an understatement. Both have died, sold their souls for one another, gone to Heaven, gone to Hell, gone to Purgatory, been destined for opposite sides in the war of good versus evil, and most recently been divided by Dean's time as a demon.Despite the low times, their bond always shines through and they always come back together for a "BM". (Hehehe)

3. Amulet ("Samulet")- In episode 3.8, "A Very Supernatural Christmas,'' we learn that an eight year old Sam gave Dean an amulet Uncle Bobby told him was special, after learning John had been lying to him about hunting. Dean wears the amulet for years and learns from Castiel some time later that it will burn hot in God's presence. Upon learning that God won't step in to stop the Apocalypse, Dean trashes the amulet in front of Sammie, breaking his heart, and fragmenting their relationship. At the end of this episode, Dean receives a wooden prop version of the amulet and hangs it on the rear-view mirror, signifying the brothers' renewed and beautiful relationship.

4. Adam - During the closing act of the "Supernatural" play, an unrecognizable cast member is identified as Adam, Sam and Dean's half brother who is still trapped in the cage with Lucifer. Adam has not been referenced for a few seasons and the brother's share a disturbed look. This reference to Adam felt very pointed and I can't help but feel like we will be seeing/hearing about Adam again very soon. And I imagine that he will be Pissed, with a capital P.

5. Chuck - The moment that will be on everyone's mind and a major topic of conversation for days was the appearance of Chuck! Speculation has run rampant that former prophet Chuck Shurley, the author of the Supernatural books, is actually God. As there can only be one prophet at any given time, Kevin Tran's time as a prophet seemingly implied that Chuck had died. After narrating the events of 5.22 "Swan Song," Chuck appears dressed in white musing on the difficulty of getting endings right. He then just vanishes. Chuck's reemergence tonight could mean so many wonderful things and I can't wait to see what the Supernatural writers have in store for fans with Chuck's storyline.

How did you feel about the episode? What were your thoughts and what did you enjoy seeing?

Sam Winchester's Lost Loves

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not yet seen season 8 episode "Clip Show", beware that spoilers follow.

I think Charlie Bradbury said it best in the Supernatural season 8 episode "Pac-Man Fever" when she empathized with Sam over his, "zero luck with the ladies." Throughout the series, all but one of Sam's significant relationship interests have succumbed to a tragic fate at the hands of a supernatural related force, though that relationship also met a sad fate. I have yet to shake my sadness over the death of Sarah Blake last night at the hands of Crowley's witch spell. Sam and Dean met the beautiful, smart and kind Sarah seven years ago on a case of a murderous ghost attached to a painting. Though only a civilian, Sarah was tough and jumped in on the case to help the brothers while simultaneously falling in love with Sam. Their last moment together, before last night, was a passionate kiss.

Sam's first love and fiancée, Jessica was viciously murdered in the same manner as Sam and Dean's mother, Mary, by the Yellow Eyed Demon who sought to make Sam the leader of his evil, psychic-powered army. Amy, a Kitsune, was Sam's childhood love who saved Sam from being murdered by killing her own mother. Sam lets her leave and years later Sam returns the favor by not killing Amy and her son, though she was feeding off of criminals. Dean, however, felt compelled to kill Amy and, without telling Sam, stabbed Amy in the heart and threatened to come back after the boy if he followed in his mother's footsteps of killing. Sam and Dean's relationship was fractured for a while.

Amelia is initially a widow of a soldier killed in Iraq who connects with Sam during Dean's apparent death and time in Purgatory in season 8 as both she and Sam were broken, lonely, and attempting to escape their pasts. However, her husband turns up alive (weird storyline) and she returns to her old life, only to eventually attempt to reunite with Sam, though he chooses a reemerged Dean.

Madison appears in the season 2 episode "Heart" and is a werewolf. As Sam begins falling in love with Madison, the brothers attempt to cure her of her lycanthropy but the attempt fails. Sam and Madison make love, but upon realizing that she would not be cured, Madison decides that she does not want to live as a monster killing innocent people and asks Sam to kill her. Sam is heartbroken and Dean offers to do the task. However, Sam resigns to kill Madison upon her wish. If you don't understand exactly how difficult it is to watch Sam lose his loves, just watch the clip below of Sam's tearful decision to kill Madison. Dean shares in his pain and the scene is simply, heartbreaking.

Kimster's Guide to the Single Lady's Holiday

I’m the type of gal who loves relationships...long, healthy relationships. Honestly, who doesn’t? However, some relationship partners turn out to be almost like creatures of the night! But don’t grudge and curse your single status. Embrace it! It is a time of reunification, peace, reflection, healing, growth, and, most of all, you time. Think about it. Isn’t the best point to consider a potential relationship when you’re doing your own thing and engaging in your own personal interests? Not only do you seem more interesting to a potential suitor, but you’re already happy with what life is offering. You two can share in some of these activities together while also still giving you the ability to have your own life set apart from someone else. It is no fun having all of your hopes and desires solely resting on someone who could possibly let you down and leave you scrambling for the pieces. I recently found out my ex lied and deliberately blew me off this past Valentine’s Day. I think I was initially most angry because, honestly, if he didn’t want to be together I could have been off doing my own thing with someone better, or at least at a party (with the potential of meeting someone else ;) In hindsight I was too wrapped up with little time to change my plans and go do my own thing, but lesson learned.

So, without further ado, here’s Kimster’s Guide to the Single Lady’s Holiday :

January 1 –  Resolution Day: New year. New adventures. Oh, the possibilities! So let the balls drop!! ;)

January 16 – Cultural Diversity Day: Spend time with all of your friends or even go to a museum.

February 14 – ‘Happy Unattached Drifters Day!’ Courtesy of Supernatural. ;) Sweets to the sweet. Shower yourself with chocolate, love, and wine. Want to go out dining and immerse yourself in a glass of Chianti? Go right ahead! Treat yourself; because who is better to love than you? No worries about being let down. Go to the spa, get ice cream, or watch a basketball game. Have a blast on your day.

March 11 - Spring Forward Day: I know most of us grudge Daylight Savings Time because of the loss of an hour, but enjoy the extra of sunlight and spring forward to the next chapter of your life!

March 17 - Luck of the Irish Day: You might not be head over heels with the idea of kissing a stranger, but that’s not to say that you can’t put on your sexiest green outfit, turn some heads, and bask in the attention of some admirers.

April 22 - Enjoy the Earth Day: It's spring and most of the pollen has already fallen so get out and bike, jog, or have a yummy picnic. Don’t forget to recycle!

May 28 - Memory Lane Day: Time to remember all of the great things about yourself and enjoy being you!

June 6 - Yo-Yo Day: You deserve to smile, so get back to your childhood and fun with some Yo-Yo madness.

June 14 - Flag Day: Wave your white, red, polka dot, or floral flag of single life!

July 4 – ID4: It’s time to celebrate your independence ladies, grill some burgers, have a beer, and don that retro two piece bathing suit you have been dying to wear at the pool.

August 10 – National S'mores Day: If you have a fear of spiders like me, no worries, you don't have to be camping to kick your feet up and toast some delicious s'mores.

September – Labor Day: Take this time off to pamper yourself. You deserve it! Whether that's going to the spa or curling up to a good book while eating popcorn, when you work hard, you deserve a break.

October 31 – Dress Up Day: Halloween isn't only for children. Have you been dying to pull out that Tina Turner outfit? How about Wolverine? Well, here's your chance, so grab some of your girls and head to the nearest Halloween party. Who knows? You might even meet Prince Charming. (He'll be the one with the sword on his hip ;)

November 25 – Thanksgiving Day: If you're safe, healthy, and happy, it's time to spend time with family and friends and give thanks!

December 25 – Christmas: Another holiday to truly be thankful for all and everyone you have. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on someone who may not appreciate the sentiment or return the affection, think about the ones you love. Has your dad been complaining about his back? Clear the winter ice/snow from the driveway and cars. Doing for others and seeing the happiness light up their faces is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

Showdown: Jeffrey Dean Morgan vs. Kevin Alejandro

If you like sexy men, great actors and awesome TV shows then you're really going to love this showdown between Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kevin Alejandro. These two leading men can't seem to make it through a series before getting the axe. But nevertheless, they are always dreamy.

J.D.M.

  • Supernatural: John Winchester
    • Sold his soul for his son, Dean
  • Weeds: Judah Botwin
    • A sudden heart attack
  • Grey's Anatomy: Denny Duquette
    • Died of a stroke
Mr. Alejandro

  • True Blood: Jesus Velasquez, Brujo
    • Stabbed
  • Southland: Nate Moretta
    • Beaten to death by gang members and a metal pipe to the head
  • Ugly Betty: Santos
    • Shot during a convenience store robbery
*LIGHTNING ROUND*

J.D.M. was in two DC Comic book movies, Jonah Hex (2010) and Watchmen (2009). In Watchmen he gets kicked out of a window and in Jonah Hex he's already a corpse brought back to life for about 4 minutes.

Up All Night

These days, I'm such a busy little bee that I really only take the initiative to turn on the television for a few shows per week.

Mondays: "Dancing with the Stars" (for the dancer in me)
Wednesdays: "Up All Night", "Criminal Minds", and "Psych"
Thursdays: "Prime Suspect"
Fridays: "Supernatural"

NBC has brought the fire this season with two of its new shows, "Prime Suspect" and "Up All Night". The police drama series and comedy series, respectively, are my new faves.

www.imdb.com/title/tt1843323
After laughing hysterically at the trailer, I could not wait to see "Up All Night", starring Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, and Maya Rudolph; four weeks in and I have not been disappointed. Applegate and Arnett play Reagan and Chris Brinkley, new parents to a precious baby girl, trying to juggle parenthood, intimacy, working in and outside of the home, and maintaining their youth; the latter often complicated by hip, young neighbors. While Applegate and Arnett execute a seamlessly hilarious job of playing new parents out of their element, Rudolph, to my chagrin, just seems to be playing in one long and painfully unending SNL sketch. Despite Rudolph's over the top nature, she adds a decent balance to the undeniable chemistry of Applegate and Arnett. One of my favorite scenes so far was after a night of revisiting partying hard, Reagan and Chris unsuccessfully attempt to re-diaper a quite fussy baby to which Reagan pleadingly shouts, "We are trying to help you!" All I know is that a healthy dose of laughter from "Up All Night" helps me to get over the hump of the middle of the week.

Season 5 Finale: Gift vs. Curse

On the heels of my most recent blog post, Supernatural Season 6: Super Fail, I had a Comic-Con, Dark Horse kind of epiphany. I already stated that "Supernatural" is one of my favorite shows, but two other shows in my favorite category are "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the "Buffy" spin-off series "Angel". Three awesome shows with great characters, kick-ass plots and epic endings (or semi endings.) All three shows had apocalyptic endings that fell on the season finale of its fifth season. Each contained a main character(s) sacrificing their life for the greater good. However, only "Angel" maintained it's concrete "ending" at the end of season five. "Buffy" returned on a new network with sub-par seasons six, seven, and eight continued in comic book form. "Supernatural" appears to be following in "Buffy's" footsteps with season six not getting off to a very good start. The breakdown:
  • "Angel" (Series 5 Finale - 'Not Fade Away'): Angel, the vampire with a soul, and his torn and tattered team prepare to battle the evil army of Wolfram and Hart, which is preparing to unleash the Apocalypse on earth complete with warriors, demons, giants, and even a dragon! In the rain, Angel calls dibs on the dragon, shouts "Let's get to work!", and they then proceed to charge the enemy before the screen goes to black. Classic and so well done.
  • "Buffy" (Series 5 Finale - 'The Gift'): A god from the hell dimension attempts to open a portal that will release, yes you guessed it, the Apocalypse on earth. After much battle, Buffy realizes that death is her gift to the world and the work that she has to do. As the portal, releasing all types of evil, begins to open, Buffy sacrifices herself by jumping in, which can only be closed with her blood. Even more fitting was that the last screen shot was of her tombstone which read: Buffy Anne Summers 1981-2001 Beloved Sister Devoted Friend She Saved the World A Lot.
    • However, "Buffy" was 'resurrected' on another network with two additional seasons that I felt were quite unnecessary. Going from such an epic ending, I felt that the acting, dialogue, and storyline had no where to go but down. I did not enjoy them very much. They should have let the series end at season five.
  • "Supernatural" (Season 5 Finale - 'Swan Song'): Sam sacrifices his body and soul to banish Lucifer back to Hell and save the world from being destroyed by....the Apocalypse. Much like Buffy, Sam realizes what he has to do, motions goodbye to his brother Dean, and plunges into the depths of hell.
    • Season six started back, and so far, I'm not impressed. I would have been satisfied with the season five ending.
We shall see if continuing on past the season five finale will be the kiss of death for "Supernatural".

Supernatural Season 6: Super Fail

So if you're a fan of "Supernatural" but haven't seen season 5 or the season premiere of season 6, this blog contains some spoilers! I'm going to begin this blog post by saying that I am one the biggest "Supernatural" fans you will ever meet (along with my brother). This show is truly awesome and Sam and Dean are two of my favorite TV characters/brothers/duos of all time. Having said that, the premiere of season 6 this past Friday was awful. For those of you who haven't seen the end of season 5, *Spoiler Alert*

Sam and Dean are trying to stop Lucifer, the impending doom of the Apocalypse, and are trying to avoid becoming human vessels for Lucifer and Michael. They are quite the busy bees. The rings of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are retrieved in an attempt to imprison Lucifer in Hell. Sam sacrifices his body as a vessel for Lucifer in order to banish him back to Hell (thus saving the world from the Apocalypse), but not before regaining control over his body and keeping Lucifer from killing Dean. Free will, family, and the role of God were big themes throughout this season. Very intense. In the end, Sam nods to Dean acknowledging the work that he has to do, and jumps into the doorway to Hell with Lucifer in tow.

Ok then. Fast forward a year to Dean having returned to a life with his ex-girlfriend and her son, upon Sam's wishes before he "died". Unfortunately, we are presented with a grief stricken Dean who has become marshmallowy from life in Suburbia. I understand that you want to live a "normal" life, but being a hunter is in your blood. The monsters that go bump in the night don't go into retirement just because you decide to take a holiday. He is rusty, to put it mildly. I don't know, but then things get all kinds of crazy. Sam returns from Hell all willy nilly, a grandfather returns from Heaven, there are some new third cousins twice removed who are also, supposedly, hunters that more so resemble the Scooby Gang. Really? This is the kind of nonsense that happens when creator Eric Kripke steps down as showrunner. Unfortunately, the entire dynamic between Sam and Dean was off. I don't want "Supernatural" or the relationship of the brothers ruined by botched and disconnecting storylines.

How long will this disconnect continue? The entire season? Are they really going to bring the show to an end like this? So many questions, and I'm not sure I will even be watching to see it unfold. I'd rather not have my first five seasons of an amazing show tainted by one lackluster season. No thanks.
