The Baconator

Firstly, any man with the word "Bacon" in his name gets two thumbs up from me. It's like he was born to be awesome. Kevin Bacon is no exception. With an acting career that has spanned three decades and has garnered him Screen Actors Guild, Film Critic, merit awards, and a Golden Globe, it's no wonder people only want to be separated from him by a few degrees.

He also originated and perfected the dance now known to young people as the "Chicken, Noodle Soup" in Footloose. (Yes, folks. He did, indeed.)

Bacon's first major film role was that of Chip Diller in 1978's National Lampoon's Animal House. His career soared after that with a hit movie, or a few, every year following. The 90's was his decade with hits like Tremors, Flatliners, JFK, A Few Good Men, and Apollo 13. The 21st century brought some ups and downs for Bacon, however. Bacon came strong in 2007's Death Sentence, a film loosely based on the novel of the same name, which was a sequel to novel-turned-film, Death Wish. The critically acclaimed HBO miniseries, Taking Chance (2009) earned Bacon Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards. However, films like Trapped and Hollow Man left many feeling like they wanted to be invisible...or hollow? This was also around the time when Bacon's wife, Kyra Sedgwick was "bringing home the bacon" (I'm sorry, I had to) with her hit TNT drama, The Closer.

With a few more misses, comic book movie fans got to see Bacon star as the main villain in 2011's long awaited X-Men: First Class. Sensational. Bacon plays Sebastian Shaw, an energy absorbing mutant and leader of the Hellfire Club. Oozing sadistic charm, Bacon brings a fan-favorite baddie to life on the big screen. Bacon continues going strong, and I can't wait to see what his next string of films will be.

Flawless Victory!

If you've ever wondered what it would look like to see Mortal Kombat's Scorpion execute a "GET OVER HERE!" impalement on Freddy Krueger, then you're in luck! Mortal Kombat 9, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, will feature Krueger as a downloadable character who will add some slashing to an already slice and dice video game franchise. Now, horror fans will know that Krueger isn't your average benevolent Sandman. In the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, Krueger is the baddie who brings your worst nightmares to life. In MK: 9 Krueger unleashes carnage on some of your oldest and favorite Mortal Kombat characters. With, not one, but two claws, fire wielding powers, and fatalities that will leave you curled up in the fetal position. The addition of Krueger to a classic is sure to make for an amazing video game experience.

True Blood: Season 4 Premiere

SPOILER ALERT!!

If you have not yet watched the season 4 premiere of True Blood which aired last Sunday, make sure you do...soon! But also make sure to come back and read this post and leave your thoughts and opinions on the episode.

If you know me then you know that I am a HUGE...huge True Blood fan, be it books, graphic novels, or the TV series. I've read all of the books in Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries Series including her latest, Dead Reckoning. I finished that awesome book in about T-minus 8 seconds and now I'm having so much withdrawal that I might just re-read the entire series to compensate before the next novel in 2012. True Blood is based on Harris' novels, each season based on a respective novel, but director Alan Ball also takes some creative liberties when it comes to plot and characters. Because I love the novels so much, I would love every aspect to be recreated onscreen. Unfortunately, the season 4 premiere left a bit to be desired for me. However, this post is in no way saying that I will not be giving the rest of the season a chance and an adhesive-like propinquity to the television Sunday evenings. Are you ready for some pros and cons?!

Did that feel like football to you guys?! No? Okay, let's move on...

Cons:
  • Bill currently has way too much power in both human and vampire politics.
  • Eric now owns Sookie's house and apparently...Sookie. What?
  • Sam and his brother's storyline of dysfunction is just lasting way too long.
  • Sheriff Andy Bellefleur is hooked on V and is off the wall. For a season or two there I had actually started liking him.
  • Tara now appears to be living a double life as Kimbo Slice.
Pros:

  • The year time jump in the show allowed for the characters to mature and for the storylines to not feel so clustered.
  • Nelsan Ellis is a brilliant actor who makes the character Lafayette come to life on screen. His character is taking a big shift from the novels, but in a great way!
  • Jason has definitely matured and the werepanther storyline appears to be moving along nicely.
  • Arlene and RenĂ©'s baby is a great plot twist. It will be very interesting to see where that story goes.

Black Swan with Benefits

If you've seen Black Swan, then you most likely remember how Mila Kunis' character appears to shadow Natalie Portman's life and seemingly attempts to take it over. And then there was that scene between the two actresses.

THAT scene! (You know the one...)

Anyway, in January 2011, fans find Miss Portman and Ashton Kutcher starring in No Strings Attached, a romantic comedy about friends with benefits. Flash forward to July 2011 and we find Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake starring in a romantic comedy titled, none other than, Friends With Benefits. The two main characters agree to have an intimate relationship with, you guessed it, no strings attached. As my head begins to spin with the cyclical nature of plots and the sheer subpar acting of Ashton Kutcher, I'll just say that I'm feeling a bit punk'd at the moment.
